After a notable wait, Apple has refreshed its lineup with the introduction of M2-based iPad Airs and M4-based iPad Pros. The latest offerings include a brand new 13-inch iPad Air, alongside updated 11-inch models. For those who favor the Pro line, the devices are slimmer and boast OLED displays. Accessories haven't been left behind, with Apple unveiling the new Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard designed specifically for the iPad Pros.

If you are considering buying the new iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard, there are 6 things you need to know!

1. Storage and Performance Trade-offs

Choosing the right storage on the new iPad Pros is crucial, as it affects the device’s performance. The basic 256GB or 512GB options come with a nine-core CPU, while the higher 1TB or 2TB storage options offer a ten-core CPU, which could mean a considerable speed boost. Additionally, RAM options vary with storage size—8GB RAM for lower storage models and 16GB for the higher ones, which, again, could have big benefits to professional workflows.

2. Advanced Display Options

The new iPad Pros introduce an optional Nano-texture display, previously seen on Apple’s Pro Display XDR, to reduce glare. This feature, however, comes with a $100 premium and is only available with the upper-tier storage models. I have bene using matte glass screen protectors to get the same result on all of my existing devices. This costs much less and is easy to replace. 🛍️ Mothca Matte Glass protector: https://geni.us/euSA

3. Camera Configuration Changes

Interestingly, Apple has removed the ultra-wide camera from the new iPad Pros. This might not impact most users, as iPads aren't typically primary photography devices, but it's a curious reduction for those who rely on their iPad for photography.

4. Magic Keyboard Enhancements

The newly designed Magic Keyboard includes several refinements such as an aluminum palm rest, a larger haptic trackpad, and a full set of function keys. However, the external material remains unchanged, continuing the use of a rubbery texture which has not been well received in terms of durability and cleanliness.

5. Limited Connectivity

Despite updates, the USB-C connection on the Magic Keyboard still only supports pass-through charging, missing the opportunity to enhance connectivity with external devices like SSDs or docks through a single connection. This does, however, support up to 60 watts of passthrough charging.

6. Compatibility Restrictions

The latest Magic Keyboard is exclusive to the new iPad Pro models. This means owners of the new iPad Air will miss out on these advancements and will need to use the older Magic Keyboard versions, which lack the new aluminum palm rest and larger trackpad.

Closing Thoughts

Time will tell if these updated iPads can live up to the beefy hardware inside. Stay tuned for more thoughts...
